Dr Fergus Rugg-Gunn is a Consultant Neurologist and Honorary Associate Professor employed by UCL Hospital NHS Foundation Trust at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. He qualified from United Medical & Dental Schools of Guys and St Thomas’ Hospitals, University of London, Medical School with MBBS with Distinction (1994). He subsequently obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (1997) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (2019).
He is on the Royal College of Physicians Specialist Register for Neurology and his PhD in advanced MRI techniques was awarded by the University of London (2004). Dr Rugg-Gunn is one of the consultants in the Department of Clinical Neurology and runs specialist clinics at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. He is Clinical Director for Neurology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Clinical Lead at The Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy.
Dr Rugg-Gunn is a member of the International League against Epilepsy, member of the Association of British Neurologists and Royal College of Physicians, London and committee member of the MHRA Expert Group for Neurology, Pain and Psychiatry.
He has extensive experience in the evaluation of patients presenting with “fits, faints and funny turns” and in medical and surgical management of patients with epilepsy. His research interests are magnetoencephalography, in particular the localisation of epileptiform activity and neural synchrony, advanced MRI sequences, such as diffusion tensor imaging, anti-epileptic medication, and SUDEP and cardiac arrhythmias in epilepsy.
